This upcoming transfer window may be one of the most important in Leeds United’s history.
After coming so close to getting promoted last term they seem to be only a couple of quality additions away from taking the next step and finally being promoted back to the Premier League.
In order to improve on their squad, Leeds should be looking at proven quality Championship players, but instead, they are sniffing around the third tier of Italian football, a transfer policy which could easily backfire.
What’s the story?
For the second time this week, the Whites have been linked with a player who has been plying his trade in Serie C.
First, the Yorkshire club were linked with Stephy Mavididi who has been turning out for Juventus B, and now they are reportedly after Michael Folorunsho from Vitrus Francavilla.
Andrea Radrizzani has said that this summer would be difficult in terms of transfers, but this isn’t quite what United fans will have had in mind as the club seem to be really scraping the barrel.
Must aim higher
Surely Leeds must be aiming higher than the Italian third division when looking at their next signing.
Marcelo Bielsa has been incredible at getting the best out of players, but this penny-pinching strategy of looking to sign unknown players and make them stars may be asking a bit too much of the Argentine.
United have been linked with some of the best players available to a Championship club in recent weeks with Harry Wilson and Helder Costa both named as reported targets. Whites fans will undoubtedly be disappointed if Victor Orta and Radrizzani opt to sign these Serie C players rather than splashing out on proven Championship stars.
