According to Spanish newspaper AS (Monday, 11/03), reported via Sport Witness, Leeds United could sign Ander Iturraspe on a free transfer this summer.
What’s the story?
The Athletic Bilbao midfielder’s current contract is set to expire this summer. There will almost certainly be no renewal of terms offered to the 30-year-old, who has only managed two La Liga appearances so far this season.
Are fans being priced out of the Championship as well as the Premier League? The angry Bolton fan in the video below certainly believes so…
The two-cap former Spain international needs to seek pastures new if he’s to get his career back on track. A switch to Elland Road, and a reunion with Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa, could be the kickstart his career desperately needs.
Whilst he will be missed by Bilbao, where he came through the academy, the time to move on has come.
Invaluable experience
The defensive-midfielder has worked well under the Argentine coach before. Iturraspe shone for Bilbao during Bielsa’s reign, earning his international caps during that period. If Bielsa could get him back to his best, then this free transfer would go down as a spectacular bargain.
Iturraspe’s experience could certainly see him become a key figure for the Yorkshire club. The Spaniard could even have a similar influence in the Elland Road dressing room to that of his veteran compatriot Pablo Hernandez.
Bielsa is currently working with a young, small squad at Leeds. Extra experience being added this summer could prove invaluable for the club, especially if they achieve promotion to the Premier League at the end of this Championship campaign.
