Aston Villa have not given up hope of signing Yannick Bolasie from Everton and could hijack Middlesbrough’s swoop, according to The Liverpool Echo.
What’s the word?
Steve Bruce is frantically searching the market for experienced wide options to help Aston Villa in their promotion push this season and the club are ready to fight against the odds to land a top-target ahead of their rivals.
Yannick Bolasie is widely reported to be closing in on a move from Everton to Middlesbrough for the 2018-19 but The Liverpool Echo states Villa are not giving up the chase, as they seek to hijack a deal for the DR Congo international.
Bolasie travelled to Middlesbrough’s training complex this week to hold talks with Tony Pulis’ side ahead of a potential move and the Teessiders are favourites to sign the 29-year-old, with the club confident a deal will go ahead as they also look to secure Mo Besic.
However, the report adds Villa are hoping to hold talks with Bolasie ‘within 24 hours’ and want to persuade the experienced winger to snub the advances of Middlesbrough to move to Villa Park.
The right move?
With it becoming apparent that a return for Robert Snodgrass is off the cards after the Scotland international started West Ham’s defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday, Villa are having to pursue alternative options.

Bolasie is the leading candidate to fill the void left by Snodgrass, who was a star last season, and his experience is a prized asset – making him a better fit to Villa’s ranks than Liverpool youngster Sheyi Ojo, who The Sun (printed edition, 19/08) claim is a player they are targeting.
Boasting years of Premier League experience from stints with Crystal Palace and Everton, Bolasie would still be a potential star for a top-flight side and is the sort of signing that could make the difference in Villa’s push for promotion.
