As reported by The Independent, Arsene Wenger has shut down speculation that Alexis Sanchez is on the verge of a move away from Arsenal.
What’s the story?
Reports in outlets such as Goal suggested this week that Sanchez was about to make a mega-money switch to Paris Saint-Germain but it appears those reports were in fact a little hasty, if you take the Arsenal boss at his word.
As reported by The Independent, Wenger has branded the rumours as “only media imagination” and when asked if the Gunners were more likely to sell to a foreign club than a domestic rival, simply said: “It makes no difference at all.”
Sanchez’s long-term future at the club is of course in doubt given he has just 12 months left on his contract and he has yet to show signs he is willing to commit to a new deal.
By not selling him this summer, Arsenal run the risk of losing him on a free transfer and The Independent say that PSG could be willing to pay up to £70m.
However, as Wenger tries to rebuild his side and mount a serious challenge on silverware next season, he may just feel the timing is not right to say goodbye to his star player, despite any money on offer.
