England captain Wayne Rooney was left out of Gareth Southgate’s latest Three Lions squad for two fixtures next month as rumours suggest that his international career is coming to an end.
They face a crucial 2018 World Cup qualifier against Scotland at Hampden Park before facing France in a friendly at the Stade de France a few days later.
The 31-year-old is his country’s record goalscorer having made his debut in 2003, but despite netting 53 goals in 119 caps since he has struggled to secure first team football for Manchester United under Jose Mourinho this season, and Southgate has opted to pick other in-form players instead.
