Sometimes football is a game of inches. Shots can hit the bar, tackles can be missed and offside callscan be right or wrong by a hair’s breadth. And sometimes it’s just as tight off the pitch as well.
Harry Redknapp is known for his shrewdness in the transfer market, but even he misses out by inches from time to time. And one near-miss of a signing from his time at White Hart Lane could well have changed the course of Premier League history.
The former West Ham boss’s ability to find a bargain is second to none, even in the modern game where there are few to be found. In his time at Tottenham, players like Luka Modric and Gareth Bale were turned into superstars and sold off to Real Madrid for hefty fees, showing just what good business he’d done.
But Redknapp has revealed that he missed out on signing a world class Premier League star during his tenureship, one who joined up with a divisional rival and changed the direction of the Premier League on more than one occasion.
Watch the video below to find out who he’s talking about.
