United and Arsenal have been linked with RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons in the past but now ex-Red Devils first-team coach Meulensteen, who was at Old Trafford between 2007-13, has outlined why Ruben Amorim's side should steer clear of the 22-year-old.

He told Listofsweepstakescasinos.com: “Xavi Simons is a great player, but Man Utd would be stacking one area of the pitch with too many options. You have Bruno Fernandes in there, Matheus Cunha and maybe Bryan Mbeumo. Simons isn’t proven the way they are in the Premier League, so is he a player they need right now? Probably not.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Netherlands international is set to leave Leipzig this summer but the ex-Paris Saint-Germain man, who only signed the Bundesliga outfit permanently at the start of this year, could cost €80m (£68.5m). Whether United or Arsenal stump up those kinds of funds, while pursuing expensive targets of their own, remains to be seen.

Attacking midfielder Simons, whose contract at Leipzig runs until the summer of 2027, may not be playing at the German team next season – after they failed to secure European football in 2025/26 – but his next destination is far from certain.
