Tottenham absolutely have to sign multiple central midfielders next summer, and Watford’s Nathaniel Chalobah could be the perfect project for Mauricio Pochettino.
What’s the word?
Pochettino’s record with young English players both at Southampton and Tottenham is immense, and Chalobah could be the next in line.
The 23 year-old joined Watford permanently from Chelsea last summer, but suffered a knee injury last season that required surgery.
To say he bossed the Tottenham midfield in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash would be exaggerating, but he certainly showed glimpses of a player that cold become a real star under Pochettino.

Would he be a good signing?
Thanks to Chelsea’s infamous loan system, you have to go back to 2015 to find the last time Chalobah played week in week out, when he scored once in 15 Championship appearances for Reading.
His brief stint at Napoli showed exactly what he can do though, grabbing one goal and one assist in three Europa League performances for the Italian outfit. Across those three European games, he created over one chance per 90 minutes and completed over one dribble per 90 minutes, while also averaging 1.4 tackles and 1.7 interceptions.
His reading of the game is excellent for a young player, making him the perfect candidate to slot in alongside Harry Winks in Tottenham’s midfield of the future.
He’s just not there to break up play though, as he has the confidence, technique and strength to carry the ball forward from midfield and help create and score goals.
The 23 year-old was clearly not match fit on Wednesday night, but his close control and vision were on full display, prompting Watford fans to call him a “majestic” player who “oozes class”.
The ex-Chelsea youngster has not really gotten a fair chance yet due to loans and injuries, but his strength, vision and versatility would make him an excellent Pochettino player.
So, Tottenham fans, were you impressed by Chalobah on Wednesday? Could he be a smart addition to your midfield department? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
